Rankings updated...
Finally got the rankings updated after this weekend. Sorry for the delay. I also wanted to briefly say what I did with the Qlossal results as it is a departure from how they have been handled in the past. Teams finishing in the top 10 in the Pork, Whole Hog, and Rib categories got credit in the rankings in those categories. Clearly no one got credit for chicken and brisket since they didn't have those categories and no one got credit for pork loin as that isn't a category that we currently keep. Though with the GBA also having that category we might be adding it in the future.
Congrats to everyone that walked.

Forrest gets a Grand!
Congratulations to Forrest's Fine Foods who won their first Grand Championship this weekend. For weeks we have been talking about Forrest's Fine Foods as the highest ranking team without a Grand, well now that honor goes to Ponderosa BBQ. So good luck to them and hope that they get their Grand sooner than later. Congratulations again to Forrest for the Grand this past weekend and hopefully he can start taking it easy on the rest of us.
I would also like to mention the Wicked Que grabbed their first Reserve Grand this weekend in Young Harris. So congrats to them as well. The 2nd place finish moved them up 90 spots and into the Top 150.

Rankings updated and new feature.
The rankings have been updated to include the available results from this past weekend. I will update the rankings as the remaining results become available.
You may also notice that the team pages have changed just a little. Now included on each team page is the ranking for that team in each category. That information is located just above the contest results for each category. You will also notice that there is now a graph showing the that team's ranking in that category over a 10 week period.
Also thanks for your feed back on the bonus contest, keep those suggestions coming in and I will announce the new bonus contest shortly.

Looking for a fifth bonus event
Looks like I made a mistaken this winter when I was selecting the 5 bonus events since I included the Pine Bluff event. I don't see that contest on the KCBS schedule any more. So looks like I need a fifth bonus event. If you have any suggestions on which contest should be a bonus event please send me an email @ nationalbbqrankings@gmail.com with the contest name, date, and sanctioning body I would love to hear from you guys. If you could also include a little bit about why you think that contest should be a bonus event that would help as well. Thanks and I look forward to hearing from everyone.
p.s.
just a reminder of the current bonus events
American Royal Invitational
Jack Daniels World Championship
FBA Triple Crown Championship
BBQ and Bluegrass Festival Dillard, GA

National BBQ Rankings Updated...finally
Sorry for the delay this week in the rankings. We had some technical difficulties and, of course, both of us were out of town. Everything should be updated now including the results from the first weekend in May.
Congrats to everyone who called this weekend.

Forrest's Fine Foods knocking on the door
I would like to give a nice shout out Forrest's Fine Foods. He is currently the highest ranked team without a Grand Championship. He has finished either 2nd or 3rd in 3 of their last 4 contests and is certainly right there knocking on the door of a Grand Championship.
Good luck Forrest.

National BBQ Rankings Update
2009 Off to Strong Start
The 2009 competition season is off to a strong start with lots of teams heading out to compete this past weekend. Teams from across the country headed to Little Rock for a chance to win some of the $50,000 in prize money. 50+ teams showed up for both Mobile and North Kansas City and Clermont, Florida hosted an FBA contests as well. With 4 events this past weekend and 4 contests each of the next two weekends teams around the country have a chance to really sharpen their skills and find out if all the practice over the winter was worth it. KCBS, FBA, and MBN have all had contests so far this season and all have contests coming up in April.
New Contest Map
NBR.com has been busy adding some new features to the contest map. One new feature is the ability to show just the contests that your team finished in the top 10 in. You will need to be logged into the website and have your login linked to a team in the rankings to see this feature. You can also display contests from each month on the map. Hopefully this will make planning your season a little easier since you can now get a real idea of where each contests is. If there is anything that you would like to see added to the contest map or if you have any questions regarding linking your login to a team please email us @ nationalbbqrankings@gmail.com
Movers and Shakers
After this weekend we saw a lot of action in the NationalBBQRankings.com rankings. Flower of the Flame was up 56 spots after winning a Reserve Grand in North Kansas City. That puts them just outside the top 100 @ 108 and just 5 points away from cracking into the top 100. Double Stack BBQ on the strength of a 3rd place finish in North Kansas City is up 110 spots. The guys from Wicked Que are up 271 spots this weekend based on a 4th place finish in Mobile. And finally for the movers and shakers this week, Junkyard Dogs, who are up an amazing 381 spots based on a top 5 finish in Clermont, FL. Congrats to all the movers and shakers from this past weekend. We will have to keep an eye on these guys this season to see if they can keep up the good work.

National BBQ Rankings Update
Whole Hog results added
Adding the Memphis BBQ Network events to the National BBQ Rankings brought with it a new category in the rankings, Whole Hog. The Ribs and Shoulder categories of MBN were added to the Ribs and Pork categories, respectively. I only included the information provided on the MBN website for 2008, but I look forward to seeing how thing progress in MBN over the 2009 season. If you have any questions or concerns you can email me @ nationalbbqrankings@gmail.com
Rankings updated every Monday in 2009
Also a reminder that the National BBQ Rankings are updated at the latest on Monday evening and are often updated much earlier after the posting of the results. Providing timely updates to the rankings through out the season was a focus of the recent website update and a personal goal for the 2009 season.
